Let me preface this article by stating that I am not a 24x7x365 vegan. I 100% believe in the benefits of a whole foods plant based diet, but enjoy a good steak like you wouldn’t believe. I made the decision to be a weekday vegan after struggling with staying true to the practice for any significant period of time. I would make it a week or two before letting the cravings get the better of me, consuming mounds of meat and heavily processed foods. Around a year ago I watched Graham Hill’s Ted Talk, ‘Why I’m a weekday vegetarian’. I committed to doing the same, and, a year later, I haven’t looked back.
How Onnit Helps Me Get Through the Week
I have been using a variety of Onnit’s products over the past year, and a few of my favorites are great for vegans. I incorporate these products with my daily routine to ensure I’m getting all of the nutrients I need. I’ll focus this article on three Onnit products that I use in addition to my regular Onnit Supplements.
I find that lunch time is the key to getting through any day as a vegan. Having a healthy, filling lunch will set you up to have enough energy to get through the rest of your day and to make it through until dinner time. Hemp Force has become a staple in my lunch time routine. I put Hemp Force in a shake with a banana, blueberries, kale, spinach, and coconut oil. The Hemp tastes great, the protein you get from Hemp is extremely easy for your body to consume and will more than make up for any deficiency you may see from eliminating meat from your diet.
Earth Grown Nutrients
I had been using Green Vibrance for years prior to being introduced to Onnit and their product Earth Grown Nutrients. Earth Grown Nutrients is a blend of antioxidants: Peruvian Purple Corn, Acai Fruit, Maqui Berry, Lucuma, Grape Skin and Camu. In addition to the antioxidants, it contains a blend of greens: Wheat Grass, Barley Grass, Oat Grass, Kale, Kelp, Dulse, Spirulina, and Alfalfa. It also contains Onnit’s ‘Rainbow Blend’: Cranberry, Carrot, and Beet Root, a blend of detox ingredients: Milk Thistle, Olive Leaf, and Dandelion, and powerful digestive enzymes, Hemicellulase, and Phytase along with Papaya Fruit.
Spirulina and Chlorella
Many vegetarians and vegans know all about Spirulina and Chlorella, they have been a staple of our diets for years. Spirulina is a great source of natural protein, and the blend of the two act together as a potent nutrient source. Together they work to help the body detoxify, and assist with a strong immune system, and round out a well-balanced diet.
